The area is located on St Aldates the main north-south axial route through the town, and includes the historic side streets of Pembroke Street and part of St Ebbes Street. Pembroke Street is narrow and high sided with narrow pavements, it preserves a coherent area of stuccoed and rendered 17th and 18th century townhouses. Many of these are in use as offices or as student accommodation.

Beverley Boys to be Birched

There were five defendants in the Children's Court at  Beverley this morning.  Thomas William Thackray (9)

​

pleaded guilty to stealing a box of sweets, value 4s. the property of William Fawcett, confectioner, of Wednesday Market on January 14th.  They were caught by an older boy endeavouring to secret the box with some sweets left in it in the nich of a boot scraper on Lord Roberts Road.  This boy returned the box to Mr Fawcett and then offending boys ran away.  There had been several previous complaints about the conduct of these boys and the magisttrate ordered each of them to receive four strokes with the birch.
